Adults in Scouting
Leaders (Adult Volunteers)
Leaders guide, mentor, and inspire young people through adventure, learning, and fun. They develop leadership skills, make lifelong friendships, and give back to the community while shaping future generations.
Adult Helpers and Supporters
Adult Helpers assist with activities, camps, and events. Their support ensures safe, exciting programs for youth while offering flexible ways to be involved in Scouting.
Fellowship (Adult Members)
Fellowship members enjoy social connection, service, and continued adventure in Scouting. They support local groups, share skills, and stay engaged in a fun, community-focused environment.
Joey Scouts (5-8 years old) discover adventure through play, friendship and fun activities as they learn about teamwork, nature and caring for others. Joeys are encouraged to be patient, wait their turn and other politeness as they interact together. Joeys are introduced to camping through sleepovers and overnight camps, building up to a weekend-long "Hoporee" at Camp Cottermouth, once every three years. You are welcome to attend all events with your Joey Scout, observing at a distance, or be right in the middle of the fun activities they enjoy. Joeys is a great opportunity for you to observe your youth interact with others.
Cub Scouts (9-11 years old) build new skills by watching their friends, and Cubs enjoy a wide range of outdoor adventures that challenge them, and build their confidence. Activities include canoeing, sailing, abseiling, hiking, camping.... a huge range of activities are available in the ACT - and you are encouraged to join in, as you wish. While it is great to sometimes have a weekend away from your Youth, it is also wonderful to share these moments with them too. Cubs prepare for a five-day "Cuboree" at Camp Cottermouth with hundreds of Cub Scouts from across the ACT and beyond, every three years.
Scouts (11-14 years old) take on exciting new challenges that build their resilience and skills. We develop them as leaders, in terms of their care and thoughtfulness for their team and others. Scouts start to appreciate the importance of early planning and paperwork to enable adventures to happen safely. Scouts understand and support their community, they think about new opportunities for themselves, and create special memories. Events available to Scouts include the Cottershield, an Australian Jamboree, or any of the exciting events overseas.
Venturer Scouts (14-18 years old) are able to give their passion a purpose, and many start to specialise their Scouting, as they "find their thing" they enjoy. Venturers shape their own adventures, and gain real world skills and experience, through leadership, service, and outdoor expeditions. Events planned and delivered by Venturers include Dragonskin, Roventure, and Australian and New Zealand Ventures. It is also common for Venturers to assist with other Scouting events, including Jamborees.
