JOEY SCOUT UNIT 1
Age Range: 5-7 years
At Garran Scout Group, young people learn what they're capable of, and have a great time doing it. We've been running out of the Garran Scout Hall on Kitchener Street since the early 1970s.
Our program is focused on outdoors: camping, bush survival skills, hiking, canoeing, rock climbing, abseiling, and alpine and cross-country skiing. Alongside that come community service, badgework and the everyday business of learning to be capable and have a growth mindset. Joeys (5-8), Cubs (8-11), Scouts (11-14, Venturers (14-17) and Rovers (17-25) all have a home here.
The young people run their own program, with support from trained adult leaders. They plan the trips, cook the meals and pitch the tents, and they grow in confidence along the way.
Our hall is a hub for the whole neighbourhood, used by everyone from five-year-olds to 95-year-olds.
We often talk about the young people, but Scouts is also about you. As a parent, you can volunteer and you get quality, screen-free time with your child while they're out with their mates. You can join the adventure and stay as close or as far back as you like. No experience necessary, Scouts will bring the tools you just bring yourself.
For families who want adventure, practical confidence and a real local community, Garran is a Group with deep roots and plenty of energy.
